38″ x 38” watercolor on gallery wrapped canvas

Once the showy blooms fade and drop from the prickly pear cactus, a fruit is left behind that eventually ripens into a deep reddish maroon shade.  The fruit on the opuntia cactus is not only beautiful, but helps to feed so many critters in the desert during our summer months when food supplies tend to be scarce.  If there are any left to consume, they make a very tasty jam and a tangy margarita!

Inspired by my love of nature, I use transparent watercolors to create luminous botanical, wildlife and landscape paintings featuring strong composition, vibrant light and brilliant color. I create realistic and inviting images that encourage the viewer to engage with my subjects. My work tends to emphasize light and shadow as well as the vivid colors occurring in nature. The fluid and spontaneous nature of watercolor gives my work an organic and extemporaneous feel. My unique process allows me to paint on boards and canvas specially treated with layers of various absorptive elements in order to accept watercolor.
