On a recent trip to Cabo San Lucas our casita was surrounded by these very dramatic Bird of Paradise plants in various stages of bloom. I was struck by the contrast of the multi-colored blooms against the backdrop of the turquoise water in the Sea of Cortez. Inspiration!

Inspired by my love of nature, I use transparent watercolors to create luminous botanical, wildlife and landscape paintings featuring strong composition, vibrant light and brilliant color. I create realistic and inviting images that encourage the viewer to engage with my subjects. My work tends to emphasize light and shadow as well as the vivid colors occurring in nature. The fluid and spontaneous nature of watercolor gives my work an organic and extemporaneous feel. My unique process allows me to paint on boards and canvas specially treated with layers of various absorptive elements in order to accept watercolor.
