This night blooming cereus cactus is one I planted in my yard almost a year ago. I woke up very early a few consecutive mornings to make sure I wouldn’t miss the Queen in all her glory. I was rewarded in spectacular fashion and decided to honor her debut bloom by capturing it on canvas.

Inspired by my love of nature, I use transparent watercolors to create luminous botanical, wildlife and landscape paintings featuring strong composition, vibrant light and brilliant color. I create realistic and inviting images that encourage the viewer to engage with my subjects. My work tends to emphasize light and shadow as well as the vivid colors occurring in nature. The fluid and spontaneous nature of watercolor gives my work an organic and extemporaneous feel. My unique process allows me to paint on boards and canvas specially treated with layers of various absorptive elements in order to accept watercolor.
