Description
This one of a kind original painting was completed in 2020, it is loved by many who’ve followed its creation on facebook and instagram. There are no full sized duplicates of this painting on canvas. I do not sell full sized prints and I do not sell prints on canvas. I do not paint duplicate original paintings or paint embellishments on prints. There is not another painting like this one in the world.
The painting is 36 inches tall by 36 inches wide on gallery wrapped canvas. It comes with a removable half inch black floater frame. Shipping is included in the price. The painting was featured in the first ever issue of Art Seen Magazine, an international publication by the Curator’s Salon. The painting comes with the story about the painting. There is a signature and date on the front of the painting, and the piece is also signed on the back with the name of the painting, date of completion, and a stamp of my actual finger print.
The Story Behind This Painting:
I began this painting at the very end of the 2020 Arizona Fine Art Expo – a fine art show in Scottsdale, Arizona where artists work on site for three months while patrons and collectors visit. The show ended abruptly a week early the first week of March due to Covid 19.
Prior to these cats, I had made several paintings with feather boas in them. I found that I really enjoyed capturing their cattywampus nature and bright color, and I wanted to make more of them. At the Expo, one of my booth neighbors, Ans Taylor, introduced me to the work of one of her favorite artists – Ellen Jewett, a sculptor who makes animals with light airy intricate details from nature.
Eventually, the idea of these cats made of pink feathers popped into my head. They looked a little like Ellen Jewett Sculptures. For the background, bookshelves seemed like the perfect setting for these cats, books being like little doorways into the imagination, and I had some great bookshelves in my house that I could photograph.
While I was working on this painting, I was approached by a Gallery in Phoenix that had been following my work on instagram (it is also the gallery that was right next to the parking lot where I had my very first art fair in 2014: The Grand Avenue Craft Fair). They asked me if I would like to do a Solo Show in January of 2021. It was just what I needed to keep motivated during the pandemic, so I started making plans for the art show “Just for Fun”.
This painting is one of five paintings included in the “Just For Fun” Show – A collection of paintings done in an imaginative realist style all painted during the pandemic (with one exception). It was my first virtual art show. The show includes a video that you can find on youtube. The initial gallery show was canceled due to Covid, so I decided to show the series on my own online.
