Harlequin Quilt Glass Lace Bowl

Glass “Lace” is created in the kiln using crushed glass- when layered to just the right thickness, the tiny air gaps between the crushed pieces create a lacy pattern as the glass melts, resulting in a very distinctive surface full of thousands of tiny, pierce-work holes.

Controlling the loose, crushed glass colors to create the precise geometric shapes in this design is a difficult and time consuming process. This Harlequin Quilt glass lace bowl is accented with glass “buttons” at each corner where the colors intersect.

Glass lace pieces should be handled gently, and may be displayed “bowl style” in a supportive ring or upright on an acrylic easel. Not recommended for shipping.

What's most compelling for me is combining different elements together. I love laying colors side-by-side, to see how they affect the shades around them, and layering colors atop one another, to add depth and dimension to the translucence. Then, to be able to create fluidity and movement, and a sense of texture, to what begins as a smooth, motionless medium... it's magical.
